With our inaugural event only 1 week away, we thought it would be pertinent to address the question many of you must be wondering – why are we so enthused by Lex Sokolin?
Stemming from humble origins, at the age of 10 Lex and his family moved to the United States from Russia. Attending Amherst College, he received a B.A in Economics and Law and went on to receive both an M.B.A from Columbia Business School and a J.D from Columbia Law School. His tenacity to succeed was partially driven by his desire to help those around him.
He began his career as an investment management analyst at Lehman Brothers and went on to become an investment banker at Deutsche Bank. But Lex had aspirations far exceeding this. In 2010 he founded NestEgg Wealth, a roboadvisor enabling automatic management of clients’ wealth. The aim behind this was to push the financial services industry to better help their clients through the application of new technologies. He is currently the Global Director of Fintech Strategy at Autonomous Research, the leading research firm for the financial sector.
Yet, his successes extend far further than this. WealthManagement.com referred to him as the “financial futurist” and he was selected for the InvestmentNews “40 under 40”. He is also a contributor for CNBC, Bloomberg, Investment News, ThinkAdvisor and Techonomy. If you doubt his resilience, he even completed a three-day “Death Race” where he hiked over 20 miles with heavy backpacks, not sleeping for 45 hours.
For us, Lex embodies precisely what it means to be a futurist. His focus is technology in the financial services and his mission is to educate people on the revolutionary role technologies such as image recognition, blockchain and machine learning will have on this industry. Technology, according to him, only exists to make our lives better, stating that he wants “to humanise it just a bit”. His passion for innovative technology and its applications for human development combined with his level of experience and influence in the field are why we feel he is perfect to kick-start our series of events.
Make sure you come along next Tuesday 3rd April to witness his brilliance yourself.
